La ripresa di questo concerto, registrato in occasione di un tour europeo nel dicembre del 1969, coglie Freddie Hubbard in un momento di svolta artistica. Sospesa la collaborazione con gli ambienti più creativi del jazz contemporaneo – dopo le incisioni prodotte a fianco di John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman – Freddie Hubbard si misura con la tradizione del jazz nella scelta del repertorio (attraverso standard degli anni Venti, Trenta e Quaranta come Without A Song, The Things We Did Last Summer, A Night In Tunisia e Body & Soul ) e nella grammatica stilistica. Torna di fatto ad attraversare blues, bop e hardbop, come dimostrano Without A Song, Blues By Five e una tiratissima, e per certi versi psichedelica, Space Track.

La condizione fisica di Hubbard sembra perfetta, così come la potenza della sua emissione: il suono è tagliente, robusto, pungente e il fraseggio particolarmente fluido, come si evince dai lunghi assolo costruiti attorno a ciuscun brano. Di fatto, nel giro di pochi mesi, avrebbe inaugurato un nuovo percorso stilistico, avventurandosi nei territori elettrici, soul e funky (appena sperimentati da Miles Davis) con le prime produzioni per la CTI di Creed Taylor, “Red Clay” e “Straight Life”, entrambe del 1970.
